The tour today shall be gine with a morning pick up from an allocated time and place given to you by the agency. The day will begin with a drive of around 60 minutes along the beautiful east coast of Rhodes where you will also pass by the historical Mandraki Harbour where it was know that the Colossus of Rhodes was and is recorded to be one of the Seventh Wonders of the Ancient World, the bus will also pass by the quaint picturesque villages, aromatic orchards / Vineyards & Olive Groves but also passing by the Medieval Old Town.
Our first stop of the tour will be to Lindos Village as we approach the village you will have some free time to stroll around the village and be able to checkout the authentic Greek Cafes, Traditional Galleries with a wide range of artwork to purchase or just to look upon, but also as you walk around the white washed cobble pathways you will be able to notice that the streets are lined with Byzantine architecture with the most outstanding structure to be is the Ancient Church. Be sure to spend some time checking out the Medieval structures and also the remaining parts of the governors quarters which has been recorded to have been built by the Knights of St. John. Whilst in Lindos why not take the chance and head up the 270 odd steps upto the top of the Acropolis, and once you reach the top you will be able to find the remains of the past civilization that reaches all the way back to the 4th Century BC which was able to be understood from the Temple of Athena. The view from the top of the Acropolis is absolutely amazing as you can get a real 360 panoramic view of the lands below you especially St Pauls Bay.
The next part of the tour will take you over to the Palace of the Grand Masters and its here that a huge fortress was created to dominate the town and still does to this day. The magnificent Palace of Masters was built in the 14th Century but by horror was destroyed in 1856 and it was only rebuilt during 1939. As you explore inside the Palace you will come across beautiful ancient mosaics that actually come from the Greek Island of Kos, also inside the palace you will see the monumental marble created staircase that leeads up to the higher floor where you can also get a great view of the village around you.
After the Palace of Masters its onwards to the last part of the tour where you will head along a road that has existed as far back as 408 BC and this road will lead you to the Medeival Town, once reach here its time to have a walk around the Old Town of Rhodes. The Old Town in Rhodes is definitley a great way to round up the tour, you will head along the pebble paved lanes that make you feel you are in maze as they curl around the city. In the Old Town is also where lies the Street of Knights and this street has to be one of the best preserved but also most fascinating relics in all of the world, the pathway leads in a straight line from the Acropolis of Rhodes directly to the Port and its known that during the 16th Century this street became a famous spot for Inn’s for each nations and these Inn’s would house the knights that belonged to St John. Other spots you can find in the Old Town also include – Simi Square, Eleftthira Gate, Temple of Venus, and of course the Museum.
