Alanya back in BC 2 century was the center of the slave market, the city of Cilicia, pirate bed, and Seljuks maritime. It is known that Mark Anthony gave Alanya to Cleaopatra as a “wedding gift”. This Mediterranean city is crowned by the Castle of Alanya. The castle is a fantastic landmark and main focal point of the city as it can be seen from every point you go to around Alanya, the walls of the castle date right back to the 13th century and were built on top of Byzantine fortifications. Inside the castle there is a Byzantine Monastery, Mosque, Caravanserai and Numerous Cisterns. The castle is magnificent with high walls, 140 towers, 400 cistern and majestic doors. Just below the Castle is where you can also find the Red Tower as it is situated on the harbour frontline. Kale Kapisi is one of best example of Seljuk building. According to the inscription date of construction is 1231. Alanya Old City (Tophane) has massive stone walls, meandering streets, and old houses built so close together that they often over shadow the narrow lanes that are made from cobbles.
